The early Hammid films listed in the Times obituary sound intriguing. He obviously had a creative side to him that isn't evident in the films in the Archive (except for Private Life of a Cat). Maybe some of the same people who are making Maya Deren's work available on DVD could do the same with Hammid's early films.

Incidentally, there are those who believe that Maya Deren was primarily responsible for Private Life of a Cat.

The camera work definitely looks like it was done by Deren, but Hammid probably had a hand in the final editing, which seems more structured than Deren's work.
